WORLD PIANO SUMMIT is an evening of superb artistry with three renowned pianists: LUIZ SIMAS (Brazilian), STEVE SANDBERG (Classical and World Classical) and ARMEN DONELIAN (Armenian and Jazz). All feature previously composed as well as original works, including Solo performances and Duets with accomplished guest musicians.
Pianist, composer and vocalist LUIZ SIMAS moved to New York in 1989. His engaging performances often grace major venues including Birdland, Weill Recital Hall, the Metropolitan Room and festivals and clubs throughout the US, Europe and his native Brazil. Simas offers infectious originals, improvisations and fresh interpretations of Brazilian standards in several genres. (luizsimas.com)
Pianist/composer STEVE SANDBERG is a musical shapeshifter, remixing classical music, world music and jazz with the excitement of virtuosic improvisation. He has worked with Bebel Gilberto, David Byrne, Tito Puente and was composer and musical director for Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer.” (stevesandbergmusic.com)
Pianist ARMEN DONELIAN blends diverse influences including his Armenian origin, his Classical training and his acclaimed associations with Jazz icons including Sonny Rollins. Donelian is a producer of 13 recordings, composer of 100 works, New School professor for 33 years, author of four books, Fulbright Scholar in five countries and six-time NEA Jazz Fellow.
